The EMC Corporation’s CLARiiON CX4 Series were storage area network (SAN) disk array products that many considered way ahead of their time. When they were first released, they offered a number of exciting features that rocked the data storage industry to its core. Innovations such as virtual provisioning, fully-automated storage tiers, and EMC’s patented UltraFlex technology allowed for resiliency, scalability, and energy efficiency at levels that were unmatched at the time of the product’s announcement.

New EMC CLARiiON CX4

The EMC CLARiiON CX4 Series combined user-friendly midrange networked storage with robust software capabilities in ways that many other SAN disk array manufacturers still find hard to accomplish to this very day. This is the reason why, although the product line was discontinued, it remains a top choice for many midsized enterprises looking to find a highly reliable and secure midrange storage system at a very affordable price.

The EMC CLARiiON CX4 product line is available in four different models with varying capabilities, namely:

CLARiiON CX4-120, which features up to 120 disk drives for a total capacity of 120 TB (terabytes), 6 GB (gigabytes) of system memory and up to 12 Fibre Channel and/or 8 iSCSI ports.

CLARiiON CX4-240, which features up to 240 disk drives for a total capacity of 231 TB, 8 GB of system memory and up to 12 Fibre Channel and/or 12 iSCSI ports.

CLARiiON CX4-480, which features up to 480 disk drives including SSDs for a total capacity of 471 TB, 16 GB of system memory and up to 16 Fibre Channel and/or 12 iSCSI ports.

CLARiiON CX4-960, which features up to 960 disk drives including SSDs for a total capacity of 951 TB, 32 GB of system memory and up to 24 Fibre Channel and/or 16 iSCSI ports.

Your choice of EMC CX Series product will depend on the technological and storage requirements of your organization. For those who consider price as a major constraint, the CLARiiON CX4-120 is an excellent option. Despite being the CX4 model with relatively the lowest capabilities, it remains capable of handling moderate to heavy computing, high-speed large-block data transfers, and department-based applications.

Authorized EMC dealers like Tab Data Systems carry a preowned stock of all four variants of the CX4 line. In addition to these systems, the company also offers other EMC products, such as the AX and DMX lines. Get more information about the products, or get a competitive quote by submitting a request.
